Living with Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA)
Welcome to getyourironup.org. I hope you'll find this new educational website to be a valuable resource in your journey to take control of Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA). Here you'll find accurate and reliable information about IDA backed by a panel of world-renowned experts in the fields of medicine and science -- the Medical and Scientific Advisory Board of the Iron Disorders Institute.
I am not a physician or a nurse, but I am an IDA patient just like you. Get Your Iron Up started from the simple desire to help others who may be going through the same struggle that I have been through and still find myself dealing with today. What began as a simple one-page website that I could refer my friends and acquaintances to when their questions about my health crisis triggered questions about their own health, has become a highly-regarded educational gathering spot for thousands of new visitors each month! Through my volunteer work and partnership with the Iron Disorders Institute over the past two years, I have had first-hand experience with some of the country's (and the world's) most renowned iron experts. I am honored and thrilled to be able to share this knowledge with you. It's time for things to change for those who are living with IDA.
It's Time to Take IDA Seriously
Iron Deficiency Anemia is very serious. In fact, it's as serious as a heart attack, but did you know that IDA can actually lead to one? Your research and perhaps even your doctor may not have explained this to you. On this site, we have taken the available research and information and presented it in patient-friendly terms, with the emphasis that it deserves, because we understand how valuable your time is and how important it is for you to fully grasp the dangers of IDA. It's time to finally take IDA seriously -- there's just NO reason to feel exhausted, weak, cold, breathless, irritable and in pain any longer!
It's Time to Break the IDA Cycle
Our goal is help you break the cycle that far too many IDA patients experience...receive the diagnosis, try an iron supplement, experience pain and discomfort, stop taking the supplements and ignore the anemia. While IDA is indeed serious, it's not impossible to manage. There are numerous supplements on the market, all with different delivery systems, and we can steer you in the right direction. With some basic nutritional knowledge, simple changes in your diet and a few tips and tricks, you can enjoy all of the foods you love, but in the proper combinations and at the appropriate mealtimes. We can give you recipes and suggestions for cooking family meals and we can even help you make iron-healthy decisions when dining out.
It's Time to Get Personal
Perhaps the best part of getyourironup.org is that it's personal. There are so many other websites out there that are clinical and difficult to relate to. Please take time to browse our site to view the videos and read the stories and articles that highlight people's personal journeys with IDA. These stories bring the disorder to life in an effort to allow more people to recognize themselves when experiencing the symptoms and signs from a different point of view. This will hopefully lead to better diagnosis and management of IDA and healthier living for YOU!
Also, I hope that you will please consider submitting your story -- I would love to share it!
